To support the process of setting up and maintaining the department's research infrastructure as well as long-term planning (office space, staffing, finance) Organization and preparation of meetings, workshops, and conferences To assist in the recruitment and appointment of staff To represent the department on operational level institute committees To prepare information and documents issued centrally by the institute and the MPG General Administration (contracts, etc.) for the director's induction To draw up plans for embedding the new department in the German and international research landscape To plan and create the department's online presence within the institute website To draw up strategies for acquiring external funding Establishment, further development, and management of the department's scientific cooperation network Coordination of the department's research activities and projects Development, enhancement, and coordination of our guest program Preparation and realization of conferences, workshops, and projects Management of the director's office Organizational coordination of the director's research-related activities Independent conception, coordination, and content-related preparation and follow-up of meetings, telephone conferences, for / by commissions, committees, committees of the MPG and other institutions, including the coordination of factual contributions from third parties, the preparation of decision papers, taking minutes Conceptual and content-related preparation of speeches and greetings, speech notes and the corresponding media presentations To prepare the content of the director's correspondence in German and English Independent work such as research, evaluation, and compilation of relevant information, e.g. in the preparation of overviews and analyses of the international state of research in various disciplines
You must have at least a master's degree in one of these fields: natural sciences, social sciences, communication science, or English studies and proof of experience in academic administration. Knowledge of theory and modeling of complex dynamics in the Earth system are desirable. We also require experience in project management, familiarity with the German and international research landscape, experience of external funding acquisition, and excellent knowledge of German and English. In addition, you should have outstanding communication and teamwork skills, flexibility, resilience, a highly organized way of working, and experience or interest in working in an international setting. Our ideal candidate is well versed in time management, has excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills. The position involves a lot of traveling.
